"The main thing that I admire about don Juan is his ability to cultivate human energy at the same time that he is on a fundamentally non-human path. It is like he has found the perfect balance. I don't have any idea how I could ever duplicate anything similar to this with my energy, but I figure that you have to play the cards that you are dealt. Don Juan's energy is basically yellow, a combination of bright and dark tones the way I perceive it, the lighter being the human and the darker being inorganic. My dreaming energy is light-blue, but people who can see energy tell me that I have a lot of light-yellow energy to me, which is human. The problem for me is that all of my human energy is in the Tonal and a manifestation of my mind's internal dialog. Don Juan has brought his human energy into the Nagual, and it is quiet. His human energy is not egomaniacal like everyone else's, including mine, it is refined and sober. If I ever encountered a human being in physical form with this type of energy, then I would know that I had found a true master of human awareness. I figure that mastering my own electric-blue inorganic energy is very important, but I would not ever let the opportunity to refine my human energy slip by, as it feels extremely important as well. Of course, after I die, if all I have is my light-blue energy (which is highly likely) then I'm going to feel pretty silly for having wasted any time on the human stuff. Don Juan has explicitly told me in dreaming to pay attention to both, so I am taking his word for it."
