This is quite a simplistic view but I thought it is worth mentioning it. When we discuss an idea, especially in relation to shamanism we use words which may be the very same words
also used within the context of a totally different idea. If we agree with one proposition, the same word used for what seems an opposite idea
does not sound right and we may feel like defending our opinion.
However, the two ideas may have a valid point in practice, this is why what counts is to act, not discuss. Here are a few examples:
"Have no doubt and trust""Use doubt to question what is real"These two propositions are not in contradiction, in action you would just do what is impeccable in the moment, so there is no need to defend our view when the word doubt is discussed."There is nothing to improve"One way to use this is to follow the thought and tap into the possibility that we just need to access what is already there. "Practice daily, exercise, meditate, etc..." this does not go necessarily against the first proposition, both can be useful."we create our reality""we are determined by what is around us"Especially when reading, posting, commenting discussing, it is easy to first react or consider ideas with our logic instead of absorbing, meditating, acting, experimenting on them. Only when we confront an idea with what seems its opposite, we believe we should choose one side and defend it.
Don Juan speaks of using both Control and Abandon! To give you an example: when someone discusses dreaming techniques to fix the assemblage point, this is what it is about....in that moment, there is little point saying "you need to let go of control and dream freely" because talking about control was not exactly against the idea of abandon.
