On my road towards becoming a shaman-sorcerer or simply a nahualli tlaciuqui teciuhtlazqui, I have depended on the gods. Why are the gods so important to me? Because the legends i've read connect to something inside of me that is like an unbreakable chain that cannot go loose unless I let it. Something in my DNA seems to buzz when i'm around anything remotely mesoamerican. It feels as though such objects, idols, and fetishes would be indowed by an animistic life force, with its particular characteristiscs according to myth and the collective unconscious. The bond has become such, that when I pray fervently to them, it seems like they don't reply, but that's because Ometeotl or the supreme being in Aztec/Toltec mythology doesn't do magic, he simply gives the O.K.The younger more active gods take center stage in this cosmic drama of quantum proportions between the forces of good and evil, order and chaos, life and death.
What do the gods want from a nahualli? First of all, a nanahualtin is a person that must be an intermediary between the gods and spirits and the community. Without him, the plants will not grow, for he controls the rains. The nahualli, in ancient times, would be the one that would be burning his offerings in the teocalli all day and night, fasting, praying, keeping vigils. If lucky he was trained in a calmecac, which is the school for the priestly class. The gods want the nahualli to develop the ability to cast upon any person place or thing nahuallotl. It's the power to enchant. Be the good nahualli enchants to better the community, not to hurt his brothers and sisters, for they too must join the struggle. When I say enchant, I mean casting sorcery that helps determine the desired outcome of ones will. If the will is tuned for good, then such good works will be rewarded with knowledge. I usually enchant for healing purpuses for me or for others, through shamanic seance, misa espiritual, and rituals with the guardian spirits and guides.
Like other magic-religious traditions, I am obligation to refine my art to such a degree of focus and concentration that any other work would seem futile, my own is a mix of both contemporary Toltec sources as well as ancient Mexica knowledges as transmitted to us by the anthropologists, or Nahualologists. I'm a knower of the sky and the underworld, therefore the gods give me my lot. But if this new sun breeds good fruit, then we will be indebted to them (by that I include myself and anyone who agrees). There are also dark secrets in the nanahualtin tradition which I know a something about, but nothing concrete enough to display here, plus it wouldn't be wise. If you could get it translated, a good book to get that was just published in 2011 at UNAM in Mexico, by Roberto Martinez Gonzalez called el Nahualismo, which is a tome of Nagualism as it was before and after the spaniards came.
The day 4-Ahau December 21 2012 will have a tremendous amount of variation in the biosphere, including the earth's soul, which we are a part of. We will ascend to a state of Ether or Akasha or Sprits, and all four of the elements will blend into one harmonious unity. I'm sure i'm not alone and that there are other out their life me, perhaps with a better vocation for my pursuit. But until that day comes, we will perhaps have trouble finding the keys to our dreams. After that time, we'll be on another plane collectively: economically, socially, and spiritually, we will ascend to another level, together as the human species, Shamanism and Nagualism form a core of principles methods and cosmologies that could be used to help the people, and allow the gods and spirits to do their job.
