Taxi ride in the dark sea of Dreaming
#1
I was in my cab the other day I had just started. It was very early in morning still dark. I parked behind the mall and hoped to catch an hour of sleep before the calls started to come in from dispatch. I got myself comfortable arranged my cushion and went to take off my shoes so I could stretch out better. As I pulled up my foot I realized I was not in park and the car started to creep forward as I took my foot off the brake. So I put it in park and laid back.
It was not long after I got settled and relaxed that I began to hear a familiar buzzing sound, like tinitus on steroids. For the last 20 years or more I have heard this sound just before I go to sleep and have never known what to do about it. At first I used to actively resist it and after a while it would subside. But it would always return few days later. So then I tried welcoming it and trying to go with. That achieved nothing either. Sometimes the buzzing was very uncomfortable and intense other times mild. For years this went on.
This particular time though there was a visual associated with it. I could see what appeared to be a page with words on it and as the buzzing became more intense and present the words and the page started to slowly dissolve on the left side and gave me the impression that the words were being swept off to the right. What remained to my visual impression was like a grey white static. For some reason I focused upon a single white dot, that seems perposterous when I consider all the dots that made up that static field, when I focused on it, I distinctly thought it was a tunnel (don’t know why) and that I  would go through it. As soon as I intended this, the dot quickly expanded (it was not a tunnel that I was expecting to go through) and ‘pop’ I was in a dream scene totally lucid and knew this to be dreaming.
I was in a parking lot and there were lots of people walking by me in the opposite direction. One girl in particular caught my attention, she seemed more vibrant and she was looking directly at me as she was walking by. I immediately pointed my little finger at her and asked her if she was an energy producing being. Before I could get a response to my action, it turns out I was in a car and it started moving (just like when I had parked the car), I was mildly frustrated by this because the car moved past the girl and I felt distracted and that I needed to steer the car. The car moved towards a loading dock at the back of a concert theater. People were coming and going into the building and I could hear Zion by Fluke playing in the building.

I couldn’t wait to get out of that damn car and go in that building. So I quickly started to put my shoes on, oh for fucks sake, really, REALLY! Then I was having trouble getting the back on my shoe over my heel lol. I was so frustrated and my dream attention quickly dissipated and I knew I was losing the attention.
Then I found myself back in the waking construct in the cab. I had never gone to sleep, as far as I could tell, from the time I first parked there to the time I found myself back in the cab! All this showed me what to do with the buzzing sound after all the years. It also showed me how little control I have while in dreaming and that the unconscious environment aspects that populate dreaming have a tendency to rob the attention if you give them too much attention. But even though I was totally lucid I was not in control as one imagines themselves in waking construct. I am just thrilled that I saw what to do with the buzzing. I am now waiting for the buzzing to occur again. It does not happen as much as it used to.

I have that buzzing in my ears all the time.  It sounds like static electricity rushing thru. It can be drown out with any outside frequency like music on the radio, tv,etc.. I just fall fast asleep anymore.

Oh! I wish mine would get drowned out! If i hear too much outside noise like electricals or appliances on top of the buzzing, I get overwhelmed.  It's not fun.

Wow, this is a really nice sharing, thanks.  I also have that buzzing, but think of it as electrical in nature.  It happens every time I go through to another world.
You mention that you have no control.  Why did you think that you needed to put your shoes on first?  Perhaps it is your effort to do what one is suppose to do that took you out of the scene?  Maybe next time just go with it.  You might not need to open doors.
Fwiw, when I read CC, this was my understanding how DJ was meeting with him, like how you saw the girl.

I did not need to put on my shoes, that's the point. I knew that as it was happening that it what was so frustrating, lol. If you remember in the waking construct I had taken my shoes off to get comfortable. The first thing I do after a nap is put my shoes back on. Somehow this habit and impression was bleeding over into dreaming and starting to engulf my dreaming attention. These are the kind of moments not to get focused on in dreaming. I seem to remember something from TAOD about quickly stealing glances of objects so as not to become engulfed by them until one can isolate an IB.
I knew I was being engulfed as it was happening. I lacked personal power to do anything about it at that point.
If the habit of what I do regarding my shoes in the waking construct was so influential in dreaming, then I have to ask what kind of behavior in the waking construct could possibly aid the stability of attention in dreaming instead of engulfing it. Or are all habits in waking construct detrimental in dreaming and that any attempt to stabilize attention can only be supported in dreaming while dreaming.
You expert dreamers out there must be chuckling as this is all so elementary. Its just that over the years the little dreaming I have done has never really interested me even the dreaming with others, really just left me scratching my head. This has been the first time that I actually seemed to initiate it instead of it just merely happening to me or getting sucked into another's dreaming, riding on their dime.

I don't feel like this is an 'elementary' dreaming experience!  Whenever this has happened to me, I just slipped into it, no initiating on my part, except maybe by dreaming alot with the IBs in the nights prior.
Oh, one other time this happened to me, I was driving my car down a long stretch of road somewhere between Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  I don't know if any of you know the Canadian Prairies, but they are pretty flat and uneventful!  The road was long.  I had been driving at night for what seemed like forever and everyone else in the car was asleep.  Much of the trip was very interesting, a lot of dreaming energy around even from the beginning, but those are stories for another time.
This night, the quiet, to myself time, with nobody else around and just blackness ahead of me, in front and behind me, seemed to induce the state.
I drove, while dreaming for quite a while, though not sure how long until my passenger awoke and jarred me out. Somehwere I have written of the experience, I should dig it out, called it "Driving in a Dream".  But all I can really say about it right now is that it is an experience that I will never forget!

Two things, and thanks for your honest answer.  First, ever hear that old story about seeing the hole and falling in it anyways?  Change happens like that, seeing it while you are doing it.  However, don't beat yourself up over it as you will have other dreaming experiences.
The other is notice in the particular way how your daily habit affected your spirit.  Notice how not everything from your waking life crosses over, but how this did.  This is, I believe, how our daily choices can and do affect our spirit.  It is something to consider anyways.  The only thing that I have found that one can do in their waking life to help one's dreaming is learn to become detached to these habits and to not take them seriously.  However, I consider it important to discern the precise way it crosses over and eliminate it. But, even without thinking about it, next time you will probably leave the shoes.
Fwiw, it appears to me like you are a knowledgable and advanced dreamer.  No chuckling here, I am amazed.  I probably won't be logging in here anymore, but it would have been nice talking with you further, you could be a great help to my own efforts at dreaming.  Thanks again for your wonderful sharing.

Sedna, "beating one's self up" is for those who suffer from guilt and a poor self image. Neither do I "have" a spirit. What is being effected is attention in dreaming.  I assure you this is very elementary dreaming and I am by no means advanced, merely a novice struggling at the first gate of dreaming. You want examples of proficient Dreamers see what Dreamways and SelfHealedMadman are doing.

I came across this the other day from a post from SHM The art of Dreaming as described by Carlos Castaneda. It seems to relate to my dream.
The only thing that makes you think you are yourself is the form. Once it leaves, you are nothing. A warrior without form begins to see an eye. The formless warrior uses that eye to start dreaming . If you don't have a form, you don't have to go to sleep to do dreaming . The eye in front of you pulls you every time you want to go.
There it was, “If you don't have a form, you don't have to go to sleep to do dreaming.” I can’t say I have seen an “eye” unless it was that dot. But I did not go to sleep as far as I can tell.
In the final analysis every dreamer is different. There are, however, general states.
Restful vigil is the preliminary state, a state in which the senses become dormant and yet one is aware.
The second state is dynamic vigil. In this state one is left looking at a scene, a tableau of sorts, which is static. One sees a three-dimensional picture, a frozen bit of something--a landscape, a street, a house, a person, a face, anything.
The third state is passive witnessing. In it the dreamer is no longer viewing a frozen bit of the world but is observing, eye-witnessing, an event as it occurs. It is as if the primacy of the visual and auditory senses makes this state of dreaming mainly an affair of the eyes and ears.
The fourth state is the one in which you are drawn to act. In it one is compelled to enterprise, to take steps, to make the most of one's time. This state is called dynamic initiative.
“One sees a three-dimensional picture, a frozen bit of something--a landscape, a street, a house, a person, a face, anything."  This seems to relate the page with words on it that began to dissolve.

Np Lex, for me you appear advanced and that is enough for me.  Much of what is written here I find confusing and a waste of time, however, I enjoyed your sharing and responded.

I am a better dreamer awake then sleeping currently. It means though that the first attention remains relatively strong, where as in sleep dreaming it will be subdued. So dreaming awake is as I see it is a balance, as you yourself felt when your habit of putting shoes back on...first attention awareness, began to dissipate the dream experience. You have to balance both awareness's (attentions) to keep the dream going. Its not hard to do at first, like for the first minute the dream vision is strong, but over time the wakign attention may start to intervene. I think its just the waking attention is not used to sharing, lol. In practice though it will balance if we intend it. This means we basically care about neither attention to any degree so that they both can coexist harmoniously. So then its a third attention in which we stabilize, but its not like we should care more abotu this attention either. Equilibrium has to be maintained, so that means excitation has no place, which I see you already know, as you were commenting how the excitation of needing to put your shoes on (a first attention desire) is what you see as not to do in future, I agree
