To me, the only quality that makes life interesting is feeling. Lose feeling and life is boring (which is still a feeling perhaps). Have a bad feeling and life is sad, miserable, have a good feeling and life is happiness, bliss. Feeling is so alive. The proclamation "I am" is really about feeling. Yes, it could be looked as i in the social sense, but beyond that there is still an awareness of an experience which is felt. I see no point in living if nothing can be felt. I also see no point in living if all that is felt is pain, I'd rather face annihilation in such a case. Annihilation is portrayed as so ominous, but really, what is so bad about it when you really think about it? Its really comforting in a way. Fear is the only ominous experience, and pain is the only unpleasant experience. From these arises avoidance, perhaps the creation of social i as a result.

i like what you say about feeling. yet experience seems so much more comprehensive. i believe this is why the term luminous beings comes about. because there are images and sounds and dreams. and yes these are feelings but they are subtle to the point where the feeling is just - empty right. and what is a feeling without emptiness and crowded feelings are about the worst. from this perspective anyways foreign mind and all pain and anger or whatever is just temporarily overwhelming and thats what makes it so troublesome. i remember in donjuan books that he says properly we are all here - and points to feeling center on the 8 point model.
