I grew up during the 60's watching movies made in the thirties, forties and fifties. There was a thing called honor that permeated these movies and was always a part of the character of the heroes. That fell by the wayside with the coming of the "anti-hero" of the late sixties.
I went to graduation ceremonies a few weeks ago because my son graduated from U of I.
I was very dissappointed in the speach given by the school official at the very end of the ceremonies,.. He was a Dean or something.
The entire speech consisted of, "you will now be a "success" and don't forget to pay us back for what we have "given" you by giving money to the alumni association."
No wonder our country and the world is in such sad shape. Young people, the new leaders of business, taking their first step into full adulthood and no mention of what kind of people they should be or what kind of character they should try to emuluate or develop in themselves.
No mention at all of things like honor or character. I guess he thought that would be too close to religion. If he thought at all about his speech before he gave it.
My son majored in business administration. It was called a commencemant speech. So what are they commencing to do, these new leaders of business? 
Go out into the world and keep their eye on the "bottom line," I guess. What a crappy message.
I'd rather spend my life "tilting at windmills."

Hidden within these allegories are found the cores of  the same truth that we all  try to impersonally  relate to in varying degrees into our personality and relationships. Then we turn them into  archetypes that come to life in our subconscious minds and  become known to us in our conscious living. the courageous hero=  the lion , the  humble sacrificial lamb,  the virgin bride, the purified church of Christ,
the bread of life that feeds and nourishes all. Then we start to see the big picture. And it was all about the love, the love ,the love,  the love.
The varying degrees and difficulites of  loving ; the breadth, and length,and depth, and height of loving.
"Peter, do you love me?" asks Jesus . Yea, Lord, you know I love you. 
He said to him, Feed my lambs.
Jesus asks Peter for a second time. "Peter , do you love me?" he says, Yea , Lord ; you know I love you.
Jesus

He  said to him, Feed my sheep.

Its goign to lead to a breaking point I think, and humanity will have new challenges to face, hopefully they will rise above and use that as an opportunity to become more spiritual.

Ok, I'll update a bit about the latest Superman movie ...I still have two more to go. This one...Christopher Reeve's second one, shows him giving up his power to be with Lois Lane (apparently he can;t sleep with her AND be Superman, lol..(I suspect he could if he just tried...I think the remake movie overrides this rule ), and I think he must have really desired her so he gives up his superpower, get a night of intimacy with her, ...camera zooms in on their content smiling faces, lol.
Then later these 3 baddies from outer space have a vendetta with Superman's father who imprisoned them, and by a fluke they make it to earth and are looking for Superman so as to 'get even'. Turns out they have the same superpowers on earth as he, except he now has none as he gave them up (by goign into a molecule chamber to deactivate his power). So after he realized his mistake, he hitchhikes back to his crystal place where his power is and begs for it back and he gets it back and then kicks butt.
There is a funny line from the movie, this sheriff and deputy, southern red neck guys...they come upon the 3 alien bad guys and the Sheriff says to the cowardly deputy to get on out there and face those 3 people. The deputy hesitates and the sheriff says "Dwane, you got to learn to kick some ass if you want to be a peacemaker." LOL

Interesting Ninth. And I note that Bob is male but is the lunar aspect and you female the solar aspect so nice interplay of elements.

And it give a bit of analysis on that second one...it has a sort of journey to Ixtlan theme, in that one cannot be fully in the tonal once they receive the Spirit's knowledge.Those called on the path are given a 'job' Superman had a job to serve, and he had to fulfill that, its who he is. He begged for his power back because it was the most important aspect of who he is. The fact he could give it up, some may say that was selfish...but it could be looked at teh other way, that it took great courage to surrender power like he did, and just be 'mortal'.He loved and so did it for love, but the servant in him and what he represented was larger then personal love, and he does not have to forego personal love, but to put everything in it proper perspective which his experience with that ordeal did. So he is first superhuman and then there are human elements that touch him and keep him connected with humanity, which is important too.

This way he speaks of  is way better than fiction.

On a related note to the superman movies, I just saw the new X-men is out. Ah except new cast...not sure I will like it as much as I liked the old cast line up. What I liked about those movies though was the relationship between the various people and their powers/ability.

And fiction that carries the truth is allegory. Superman was a piece of literature created in allegorical style. Jesus was a man that came from God to be a living allegory and then return from where he came so that we could also.
Don quixote was a man who one day decided to live the allegory. He went on a quest, saw himself as a knight in shining armour. Helped damsels in distress and tilted at windmills. Lived by honor and truth and justice. He lived and died as a knight. Gave his life for a local whore whom he named Dulcinea. Who he also worshipped.
To all appearances he was crazy as a bag of crackers. Yet his inner life was so much greater than those he was surrounded by. The drunkards and corrupt people of his country. Who were the crazy ones?
I would rather tilt at windmills.

I never read  nor really heard what the fictional Don Quixote was about but  I  did love the musical theme song to "Dream the Impossible Dream".. I used to listen to the music from "Man of La Mancha "--I remember as a 12 year old kid learning to play this by ear on our family's upright piano.  Ten years later, I was in with the "crazies" at  the psyche hospital. The staff put on talent night. I tried my hands at the hospitals piano and played "The Impossible Dream" from on Quixote.. I froze from the first chords from stage fright and  went blank. Then suddenly I broke thru  silence and quickly refocused started again from the beginning  remembering the sound and lyrics in my head that I was so fond of.  My attempt to recover and plough thru that silence was a very healing time, in retrospect.
