It occurs to me to provide a syllabus for a sense of things.
1) At some point you realize unwaveringly that conventional attainment of materiality as a primary guide to one's actions will make you utterly miserable. You find true alternative principles, such as I share.
2) As you begin to pay attention to such alternatives, the reinforcing empiricism follows, and you want that you are on a path. You recognize that overly orchestrated effort is counterproductive. {Remember my example of a trip somewhere. Think of Harold and Kumar going to Whitecastle hamburgers. Lots of 'diversions' are part of the trip.} A simple trust in living an unfolding experience is a suitable comportment for enlightenment. Fully trust you are on your way.
3) Detachment creates the elevating space, so as to glide along. I was initially unaware of how bound I was to things that are unimportant to happiness. The first detachments are those that involve unpleasantry. Know that detachment continues by degrees. Detachment in concert with reason is practically the whole deal in achieving objective awareness.
4) I don't know how to verify this, but recapitualation (as per Don Juan) is imperative. I could never have forced this activity. The idea that you do this is there.. I believe the spirit will accomodate when ready.
5) Along the way, there are times when you are more receptive to the ideas of books, 'teachers,' other media. SEE this as sacred space; trust to completely trust and be moved at these times.
6) Detachment brings you to understand the value of the pause, the space, the non-judgement at the deepest level of one's existence. This time of unconcern, this place of indifference is the crux of wisdom, and this is when and where detachment will become power to manifest the essential being. I mean, I first understood detachment to be in my own isolation. Of course it is true one is in isolation, but I mean one can project outward to the world without leaving the essential center of being alive and aware.
7) The path is forward. You will never go backwards. I am laughing at how many times in the growing pains I wanted to revert to how things were before. There is no way back to the old town.
Then, there is a way back to the old town. Barriers come down. Nothing is impossible.
