According to the Mexica, if we die a normal death, we go on a four year journey to the underworld of Mictlan where we face mythic feats, at the end of which we find eternal rest. Another story goes that if we die the soul in our heart becomes guardians of the places that are wild around our area of life, and our tonalli dies, eaten up by the eagle if we can't swing by. We may ascend as the toltecs did and become stones as the ones in Tula, or we may become butterflies and hummingbirds, as legend goes. Now, where would I like to go? To Tlalocan. Why? Because it's the most beautiful place on this planet, and is a real destination after death. It really exists, in the infraworld just beyond conscious awareness, out there in the SSC, near but far. It is a place that is in the lower world and in the sky at the same time. It's in the earth and celestial at the same time. Telluric-Cosmic energies. You go there if you drown, hit by lightining, or chosen by Tlaloc to be with him on the other side. But the soul, as well as the consciousness, is truly eternal, as in the Judeo-Christian tradition. We could go wherever we want after we die, if we die a good death, and resurrect from the depths of the abyss with full, conscoius awareness. We lose our consciousness to a certain extent when we reincarnate, but we could easily recover those lost pieces with some regression work or recapitulation into another life-time. I'm going to continue counting the calendar in the netherworld or infraworld wherein I could be reborn 1-Rain or Ce-Quiahuitl on the calendar, thereby being reborn as the prototypical nahualli. Or 1-Wind, 1=Lizard, 1=Death, 1-Grass, and 1-Flint. Such are the days. We control karma, us and god and his messangers, the guardian angels and protectors of a lower order. They could communicate the true laws of karma. We need not be a death defier as Castaneda put it, because, if you believe in Christianity, or any other religion that includes eternal life after death. We are simply spirits stuck in a human body. We're to be angels, but our primitiveness doesn't let us advance. We need to develop our psychic abilities and live a good, healthy life full of transcendent moments, then we'll be reassured a good after life. But my final destination is Mictlan, if I don't have a choice about it. I'll return every Dia de los Muertos.
