The AP can be compared to many things. Channels on the TV or radio, the gear shifts on a car, phone numbers dialed up to different types of people, the 50 states in the US i.e. Planets in solar system, ...
To know you can shift your AP makes you realize there is no set "you". If you are a TV, you can be any of the channels, but you are not any single one. Then you realize in your choices, you can select the ones you want. This would take time to get good at, and process of discovery and recovery, but if you are into this type of thing, why stay in the rather fixed non-sorcery positions like the mass of people?
I've heard it said somewhere here in the forum, a goal is to access as many positions as possible. I found this interesting as a statement, but am not really sure. In one way it sounds like a good idea, in another, is it biting off more then one can chew? I would say not, but still seems a daunting task. I know there are some good basic positions, not basic in terms on being simple, but basic in that they offer much and so are good in general. One is the place of no pity. Its one thing to discuss it as a concept, but to experience this position you see its sorcery value because of who you become in such a position. To discuss it as a concept while being in an academic AP position is worst thing one can do. Because then you think you understand it, when in fact you don't. Its better to intend it.
Intent is the gear shift in the car, or the remote control of TV or radio dial or phone keypad...intent is what enables one to access the positions directly. Not thinking....intent.
