"The Four Agreements (Companion Book)" is the title of a book by don Miguel Ruiz that I bought this week while out of town (we don't have any bookstore locally except for Hastings and the metaphysical selection is pitiful).
The author's bio says he was raised in rural Mexico by a curandera mother and a nagual grandfather. After a NDE, he had a change of direction which led to an apprenticeship with a powerful shaman after which his grandfather still leads and teaches him from the other side.
The four agreements are:
Be impeccable with your word.Don't take anything seriously.Don't make assumptions.Always do your best.I'm just on the first chapter of "Part One, Mastering Awareness," which is titled "Domestication: Human suffering begins with domestication."
The chapter introduction is:
During the process of domestication, we form an image of perfection in order to try to be good enough. We create an image of how we should be in order to be accepted by everybody, but we don't fit this image.The most profound idea that I have so far read is this:
Your whole point of view of your whole reality is based on what you believe you are, but what you believe about yourself is just a concept. It is knowledge, but knowledge does not mean it is truth. Knowledge only means it is what you know.Knowledge only means it is what you know.
I read that and said WOW. Of course that is true but I never really thought about it to that depth. How simply profound!
It begs the question to any one who perceives themselves to be, or who aspires to be, a 'man of knowledge'...
is your knowledge opinion...or fact?...
is your knowledge thought or action?...
did it come to you in the form of an idea...
or did you *see* it?
