It seems easy to miss this today, but "feeling safe" has different connotations. If you need to conform to the herd to feel safety in numbers, or if you're a liberal snow flake hiding in your safe space, we tend look down on these things. But it's like no seriously NOT BEING EATEN by lions used to be a much bigger deal. People used to live in villages that got raided by other villages and basically anyone passing through.
