Does this thing exist which we call a personality?
#5
I like the name of masks for personalities. I don't think they exist in a vacuum however. Take the case of devout boy who gets kidnapped by pirates and forced to join the crew. After effecting his escape in 5 years, the lad returns to his parents. Naturally he will don the mask he wears for his family again, but wouldn't we expect some of the behavior he learned at sea to leak through the mask he shows them? After hearing him talk like a sailor, it'll be his pious parents who say "Arrrrrrr!"

So, what be leakin'... (oops, sorry, gotta take me pirate mask off here)... So what is it that's leaking through the mask shown the parents? Is it the mask he's worn at sea for 5 years? What's behind that, another mask? Are we just like Maya, a bunch of illusions crafted in layers? No, I say! No indeed! There is a core in there somewhere. Where there are no habits, and no need for a mask to protect us. Where all animals are considered equal and the gold paved streets all lead to the fountain of youth!

Actually, I wonder if it is indeed possible to operate with NO habits beyond what's necessary to stay alive, (breathing, etc.). It would definitely be a challenge.

Well when one stops creating it they might wonder if it wasn't just their imagination. The reality of what exists in our imagination alone is of course debatable.
