I understand what you say about play. I am not sure I understand the rest of what you are saying there.
You touched on people who know sorcery vs being grounded in the tonal.
There is duality between two sides or methods of obtaining and expressing knowledge and I see it in the forums.
Stalker vs Dreamer, and then dualities even within those complementary classifications - Stalker who acts with abandon vs stalker who talks, explains, uses reason for example.
It is kinda of illustrated in the examples of the Naguals in the Castaneda books. Julian is known as a man of action, and yet he could act, trick, dance, seduce, and occasionally use language. Whereas the Nagual Elias, or Juan Matus, only occasionally resorted to trickery, but all of their actions were backed up by very lengthy (but skillful) lectures and explanations.
On the dreaming side, Nagual Julian had no problem taking many gifts of power from the death defier (and Lujan was the king), yet Don Juan only took two. It is almost as if Juan and Elias were the more settled, sober naguals, and yet that would never match the brilliance of Julian (who in daily life is the best stalker we know about).
So examples in this forum from the few people I have seen here for your fun and indulgence
Serloco - obsessed with sorcery and talking in riddles, a little bit nuts but he knows it, and able to say in so many words "Oh you think you know reality, will from my POV reality is fluid, so stop saying everything is an absolute," and although he occasionally slips into being offended or hurt, he still keeps going on (as any warrior should) towards refining his intent.
Billy - more interested in the Tonal, but ALSO talks in riddles, masterful with words (almost too masterful because I don't always get it, you have to really read things two or three times). Your stalking is what I call playing in the 'labyrinth of reason'. You know you can get lost in it, but thats okay with you, as long as your game as a warrior is never up.
Gug - prefers to speak plainly and clearly and is obsessed with perfecting skill and talent in any stalking arena, believing this will lead him to real sorcery or better dreaming some day. Unfortunately gets stuck or stiff when obsessed with his idea of perfection and how it 'should be'. His tonal fights with his nagual, but will to go through hell anyway to get there. For him everything of use is an acquired skill and shouldn't be done the easy way, although it sometimes SHOULD be.
Littlepaw - simple with little words. This works best for him. Even his name is meant to be minimalist and humble, a stalking manuever in and of itself. He dreams, he does NOT play with words, so he will never bother to understand people like Serloco and Billy lol.
Finwe - I dunno lol
Abs - I duunno lol
Watergaze - open and honest understanding versus all this male puffing of the chests that we do. There is no bull, there is stalking through real feeling, but in a joyful, almost innocent manner.

But the point is the duality of methods, you get pure action here, and endless explanations there. Riddles and poetry there, and plain language here. Wearing a skirt here, and cage fighting there. Moving the assemblage point there through dreaming, and moving it through unusual behavior here (stalking), fixating the assemblage point in dreaming by glancing lightly at the scene (stalking), and letting it go by abandoning the tonal willfully as you drift to sleep (dreaming)...
