A better metaphor for it would be a tool or a domestic plant, maybe genetically modified corn would be best or the plow since along with that came domestication on a mass scale. Weeds are fine, many edible, many medicinal, entheogenic etc, they carry the variety genetically and are of the wild: willful, strong, intelligent survivor thrivers. They are the roots of us.
