Yeah, the ancient one was androgynous. I assume being a character as old as her/him would tire of upholding gender norms.
Character development is interesting. You perceive it as flat while I saw it as complex and adaptive. I certainly see how the characters were difficult to connect with for select audiences. The most inspiring aspect, from my perspective, was the idea that all schools of "magic" can be united. The result is a metaphysical protection force that is observed by those who are part of it. The visual aspects added to the mudras was for people who struggle to conceptualize how energetic properties function. Like tai chi, its boring for people who dont understand the internal impact of directing and manipulating energy. Hollywood has to add a lot to sell the story. Movies are a gateway to link the normal population to what lies beyond mass awareness.
Anyway. Every pair of eyes have their own way of seeing. We either behold the mystery of life or ... not.
We either appreciate or not. We either learn something or decide there is nothing to learn. We choose how we experience reality. Im sorry you chose to see flat characters who were too different to be able to understand. I get that way about characters from Pride and Prejudice.
