I haven't seen the first one, but even the second had a few WTF responses with regard to plot. A bunch of f*cking dancing addicts at the mercy of a crazed cannabalistic woman--and it requiring the union of two secret services to unravel the identity of a double agent.... like wtf. Weird. Some details are frivolous compared to the message. I mean, I can say "I love you" by replicating a romantic story or by running you over with my car. Both relay the same message, but with varying means. Movies are like that--ignore the red herrings while pulling out the Easter eggs.
Pride and Prejudice is probably a good movie. If I were the sort of person to give it a chance I'd probably enjoy it. Unfortunately I only become concerned with minor mundane matters after growing attached to the characters by watching them in epic battles. Or something like that.
I'm a big fan of the show Bonanza, which has a number of mundane episodes I've enjoyed. But if it weren't for all the gunfights, I'd have never kept watching the show.
I haven't sat through P&P. I genearlly won't watch things without violence either.
As to the "ancient one" in the Doctor Strange movie, I never read the comic, and I thought the character portrayal was appropriate. She seemed convincing in the role although they didn't go too much into her character. I agree with WG about the overall character development. Like Strange's relationship with the nurse feels kinda tacked on to the story. They explored Strange's character a bit, but really only one aspect of it. Mostly we just get to watch Strange struggle to learn magic and try to use it as it suddenly becomes urgent for him to do so.
