"One of a best movie i saw about war is 'Das Boot' by Wolfgang Petersen." WK
Yes.
I've seen it.
It has a loyal following.
It may not have been as popular in the U.S., due to subtitles. But not a bad movie.
Another military submarine movie (not necessarily a "war movie") is The Hunt For Red October. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099810/
But the submarine movie I liked more was Denzel Washington's Crimson Tide. He works well (on a movie making level, though not on a plot level) with Gene Hackman
to create a taught military drama about: where do you draw the line ... when does obligation to humanity trump military orders, etc.
One last for now:
Alfred Hitchcock directed the making of John Steinbeck's Lifeboat.
IIRC it's somewhat quirky in that, the entire movie (or nearly all, I forget) takes place onboard a lifeboat.
It takes place during War. And part of the intrigue is, who on board can be trusted, and who not.
I saw it a long time ago, and don't remember. But I think the reason they're in the boat is because the ship they were on was sunk by a U-boat.
