you are correct in what you say, re; Rob Roy versus Braveheart. Rob Roy is a fine film, and quite accurate, historically speaking. ( amusingly, I was offered work as a stunt-man, standing in for Tim Roth, but declined the offer,).
Braveheart, is the biggest load of drivel ever to hit the screen. It has no relevance to historical events in Scotland, whatsoever, and it's box office success, quite frankly, is enough to make me despair of my fellow countrymen.
The film, 300, is merely a piece of homo-erotic fantasy. A comic book, brought to life.
Another such comic, is "Sin City", but the difference is, it's quite entertaining and funny,(and nuts!).
"The Last Samurai", is a very good film, that I would recommend to anyone of any age. Its so good, that it can be forgiven for it's slight Hollywood cheesiness. Visually, superb, and very much in the mood of a "warrior".
Here,s a few films folks here might enjoy,............"Delicatessen" by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. "Jeremiah Johnson" by Sidney Pollack. "Santa Sangre" by Alejandro Jodorowsky. "A Zed and Two Noughts" by Peter Greenaway. None of these is about war.
War films,(other than, the ones previously mentioned,),............"Apocolypse Now", of course! "Zulu dawn" by Douglas Hickox,....very accurate, historically speaking. All Quiet on The Western Front" by Lewis Milestone.
I could name many more, but, thats enough for now.
