JJ, the moderators as it is now are moderating a degree of the off topic posts and spam, so, it seems, people should ask for more moderation then. As it was here since way I remember - and I found this site in 2008 - this site had a very generous policy on whatever posting.
Of course the downside to more moderation is that moderators are individuals with individual ideas/ways of looking at things like what is and is not spam. And some people might find it is a censorship as much as it is an anti-spam moderation.
(Also something is easy or hard to identify as spam depending on having or not having the info of the poster being a sock puppet. For example, Introductions is made for introducing a member/person, we do not need 3 introductions from the same person, we do not want fictive stories, that can go into story telling - art section lol. We also do not want one person to have a schizophrenic discussion with himself or herself. So in this sense sock puppets waste time and make a mess..)
Filtering out posts is not the best solution if say I filter all your posts out and someone replies to you then I still see it (i see the quote of you, or if not then I might be confused as to what is happening why someone is saying something out the blue ) and I might not want to filter out the other people making that conversation that I am not interested in. Though, yes, it sure is help. But visitors who come here do not have these settings and get the whole load and only more durable members of the site know who or what they want to filter.
OK, keep us posted on new gadgets . But you know some members here might not be into working with such stuff..
Anyhow, we are going to try filtering out the sock puppets. I want members to understand though that this is not an easy thing to do. One has to check every IP against the other members in the admin panel and also check it in an IP locator through an external site (so I see if the IP jumps around the globe, or stays within same city etc). Yuku does not have a very user-friendly system for this.
As is I am only going to check people posting from now onwards. And we will see how it goes..
