He answered that attention, however tenuous, is never passive, because it is made from the same matter which makes up the universe. Even the mere act of exercising the attention implies an energy transfer."It is like the velocity which when being applied to an object, adds mass to it. Likewise, the focus of attention adds reality to things, and that reality has a limit. Beyond that limit, the world we know disintegrates."The secret of the sorcerers' marvels is the channeling of attention. It doesn't matter how they apply it, for good or for bad; what changes is the intention, not the force of the focus. For new seers, the magic of sorcery is not in its results, but in the ways we get to them. Therefore, your best intent as an apprentice is to silence your mind."
How to practice Inner Silence?
I realized that I only know of the zen way - zazen (meditation) to silence the voice in the head.
What other way are there to reach Inner Silence?
Does Don Juan give instruction on how to?

I used my ability to perceive the position of awareness you are reaching for and then allowing yourself to move there. When I imagined a position of awareness where my conscious awareness was no longer translated into words I had set my intent to achieve it. At first I began having realizations that came as a stream of impulses that I would make into words, but later I began to see just the consciousness and not the words, and so they stopped. I see that the focus of my attention indeed contains intent that connects to this source of consciousness, and by focusing on to it it forms the consciousness you are intending. In my stalking I discovered that this outer source of consciousness contains total memory, and total knowledge and awareness. It can be aligned to in many different ways as well, to align to how you perceive it to be, making into impulses, bursts, flame, streams of steady consciousness, even flavors. Its funny because it can become anything and is already all things. By controlling your attention and intent you can become the consciousness of animals, different people, aliens, or even move your consciousness into a formless position. In one position all it takes is the focus of attention to an animal to become the exact position of the animal. It wasn't the silence that brought this awareness to me it was from stalking the connection that exists between all things and my inner awareness and attention. I use silence to make old awareness silent, inactive, while activating new awareness in its place, however I can still think of this action while it is happening, being aware of the process I am intending, which is not silence but awareness. It is not the silence itself that deactivates my old awareness, it is the awareness itself that realizes it can move to somewhere new, and the intent that is set to do so in this awareness. You can place power in silence and make it do all kinds of things, yes, but that is still your awareness of silence and the intent within it. I would have to say that the real gateway to power of the attention is simply to hunt it, observe it, intend to know about it, and give it whatever power you can while realizing always that you can shift your power to any position.

Inner silence works from the moment you begin to accrue it. What the old sorcerers were after was the final dramatic, end result of reaching that individual threshold of silence. Some very talented practitioners need only a few minutes of silence to reach that coveted goal. Others, less talented, need long periods of silence, perhaps more than one hour of quietude, before they reach the desired result. The desired result is what the old sorcerers called "stopping the world", the moment when everything around us ceases to be what it's always been. This is the moment when sorcerers return to the TRUE nature of man. The old sorcerers always called it "total freedom" ----Don Juan (Carlos Castanada)
I have come to think of internal dialogue not only as the chit chat in the mind. I pretty much never have any chit chat in my mind and this is not inner silence it is just being awake. I think inner dialogue includes everything in the describable universe, everything that has a name. My world is full of names, computer, guitar, me, music, everything that is happening around me is being described and I believe inner silence will be the cessation of the description of the world.
