I think in regard the notion of the double, that I'll rely solely upon don Juan's definition and discussions thereof, since I'm unaware of any other source for a definition.  If I do that, then I'm fairly certain don Juan said nothing about any other life form creating or maintaining what he called "the double".

Can you explain a bit further what you mean by this?  You are suggesting that every human is a potential nagual and also, then, that CC's (or Don Juan's) idea that nagual beings have difft energetic make-up than other humans is not correct?

Descriptions of the double exist in virtually all spiritual traditions, in one way or another, and can be found in virtually all branches of shamanism in particular. Don Juan didn't hold the patent.  In fact, Castaneda got a lot of it incorrect - so don't be too quick to rely on his definitions alone.

Sorry - I was on my phone when I worte that short reply.    This is my opinon only and I do not confess to know more the don Juan (or CC).   I feel that when don Juan describes The Nagual....he is describing the leader of a warrior party, who has a different energenic make up (4 prong - excpet CC was a 3 prong Nagual).     The fact that The Nagual has this energetic make up is for the cohesion of the warrior party and the fullfient of the rule of the Eagle.  All the members of the warrior party are connected to spirit, aware of their double, and yes....a nagual being.   The Nagual, leader of a warrior party, is not the only nagual being in the party.    In my opinion (what I see from silent knowledge and spirit).......anyone who decides to live an impeccable life and develops their double is a nagual being (not The Nagual leader of a warrior party).

Just about any competent book on shamanism will bring it up.  STart with Michael Harner.  Arnold Mindell also discusses it in The Shaman's Body.  There are dozens if not hundreds of examples.  Limiting yourself to what Castaneda said is just... well... limiting yourself.  It's also important to remember that CC painted himself as a so-called 3-pronged nagual, which means he was "missing" a vital aspect of the nagual's energy body.  That's why (imo) he had to be set up with an extant "nagual woman".  I can go into this in depth, but I doubt anybody is really insterested, which is okay, too.
Of course, Carlos was  trickster, and as you well know, I personally believe don Juan WAS Carlos's double.  Whether Carlos ever consciously knew that or not... who's to say?  Don Juan was to Carlos what Orlando is to me.  *shrugs*  The double moves in mysterious ways... heh.

This is also relevant.  The fact that the terminology varies from one tradition to the next is irrelevant - what is being described throughout the various spiritual disciplines is the same thing:  the double, other, higher self, inorganic self, and so on.

A interesting stories....
 Remembering that I have one lucid dream where I was Intending to go on Orion constellation..as I read in book of Armando Tores conversation whit Nagual that on Orion is a safe house of Intend but it is not claver to stay there a long time...
When I woke up in the dream I saw a Orion constallation,and said my intend to go there,star flying and close my eye's when I open my eye's I was pull back on the earth,and find myself on the ground entering in one of houses that was there,saw a women who was I.B. she welcomed me and I sit on one of chair that was there and make mysefl comfortably....
She said that she see that I am very well prepered and that I have time whn I comeing to her like that..
Then she start talikng about ''double being''...
I instantly star talking like ''ohho yes yes I read something about it in the book of C.C. acting like I knew everything about it...
Then she start make it double of herself like in front of her is a one more her comeing out of her body... then the dream start collapse....

i once read about a Warrior Dog who was found by a Warrior and was destined to be a Warrior Dog because he was found by a Warrior. I also seem to remember reading also that all living creatures are given the opportunity to be free or free themselves or a shot at freedom. I had never thought about it before animals being Warriors. A lone Zebra affecting all the awareness of the other Zebras.
