Some information i found out from a online friend who apparently has been studying Norse
Mythology and the Vikings for over 40 years..
i asked:
Do you know of any link between Beowulf and wolf lineage of people.?...
Answer:The descendants of Wotan-Odin are for the male side named Berserks and Ulvhedni;
"Bear cloaks" and " Wolves heads"; they were the "Einherji"; the male warriors
able to "hamast", change into bears or wolves, with superhuman strength and abilities.
The female part's names are mostly lost, only their common name: Vargynjur; "Wolf ladies".
They didn't belong to Odin, but the female aesir Frøya,
godesss of love and sexuality, and in battle they were the uttermost feared warriors of history!
Very strange that they almost have been forgotten!
The Vargynjur "Wolf ladies" were also able to "hamast"; change into a superhuman predator like werebears or werewolves, but according to legend, most of them transformed into some bird of prey;
falcon, eagle, buzzard or owl, and several other bird species are known.
I asked :any idea why it was one wolf that headed the lineage, and not a pair, as they are pack animals?
Answer: It's usual a that a male leads any pack, since it is a strong instinct in any female
to choose and follow a strong male.
But leading a pack is almost always a PAIR, since humans as most other animals,
only reach they maximum as a pair.
I asked: do you have any info on the role of women in general in norse mythology and therefore the vikings themselves...
Answer: Woman had the highest esteem in Norse tradition as mythology:
The godess of love, Frøya, was to choose the fallen warriors BEFORE the chieftain of the Aesirs, Odin.
Women had right to divorce and heritage, and were considered equal partners of marriage.
There were female chieftain with hundreds of warriors under their command, but they were rare.
But in the beleaguering of Paris, chronicles says the Vikings had their wives with them, and that they partook in the battles, mostly by yelling at and mocking their husbands to fight harder!
