a bit more about dreaming
#1
Recently, I came across onto some text written by a Swiss man Klaus von Klosovsky who lived in 20ies of the last century. It is called "The three dimensions of dreaming".
He wanted to explore dreaming and contacted Sigmund Freud about it, but wasn't happy with Freud's answer who called Klosovsky's ideas as poetry, fantasy and unusable trips of imagination. That ended their correspondence. But, this didn't discourage him and he continued his research alone. Unfortunately, the text is not on English, so I hope my translation is not so bad, unusable.
Here is the excerpt:
"I order to decrease influence from outside world, I avoided to go out or to accept guests in my house. In one middle aged transcripts called "Purgatorium somni", written by a little known magic sect, I found a hypothesis about dreaming as the gate toward deeper regions of the Dreaming and this attracted me very much. The transcript was written in muddy, allegorical llanguage and talked about the gate which is possible to cross only by adepts and to face higher reality. The gate is guarded by some terrible creatures, spooks. Since the text was hard to truly understand and techniques are described in unclear way, I had no option but to lean on my intuition and personal power.
Soon, I realized that first, I must discipline myself in "java". So, I made very strict and precise daily scheme to follow. I thought, who is not able to control himself in this reality, he will not be able to do that in completely unknown and dangerous situations. In one script of Master Ekhart, I found these words: If someone wants to be like a god, then he must be ready to bear all of the troubles and difficulties (withal, the most effective way of getting rid the trouble is to simply bearing them) and to be indifferent to all. That's the way I did it, too.
Later on, I moved to experiments with the first dimension of dreaming. The task was not to allow the variety of the dream to take my attention away - cause, it is nothing but a mean for hypnosis. That is why, I decided to set the dream environment, to plan the dream in forward. For instance; I will dream as I walk by the Geneva lake, carrying in my right hand the Goethe's Faust. I'll stop by the particular bench, sit on it, open the book on the page 137 and start to read.

It was very hard at the beginning and finally after three months, I dreamt about the lake and myself walking by it. I tried not to turn to the various creatures, dream characters which moved on my left and right. That first night, I sat on the bench and than, I looked at some woman which turned this into ordinary dreaming. Another six months took me to remember to open the book at particular page and read it. The text repeated itself each dreaming session, and, it was identical as in real. After this success I was able to do anything in the dream at any time and to dream any subject I wanted for every night. I called this dreaming the first dimension. But, I was unhappy with it, wanted to go further, to the second, the third dimension, surely they must exist.
After many months of trying and missing ideas of how, I almost quit. But, one day I read in some papers an article about Freud's patient, some Ernest Mayer. In that article Freud presented that his patient had illusion of belonging to some sect whose members are gathering in dreams. There were some poems in Mayer's diary found, gotten from these dream-gatherings
(roughly translated):
When you fall asleep, die for the world,
Then leave your corpse and walk,
Do not look back at these bad creatures,
For they exist only when convince you that you exist,
The burden of Death you must resist.
In dream you always must know it is not you,
and you are far from yourself.
Do not bring your attention to the demons,
nor attach yourself with joy or the pain to them,
or you shall become as them.

On my surprise, these words were exactly as those I read in "Purgatorium somni" transcript. It was not hard to decipher them:
"When you fall asleep, die for the world" - the key element in my practice which revealed my error: the first dimension still holds the logic and reason sense as in waking life! I was naive by thinking that overruling the first dimension shall lead me to second one by default. Therefore, the first verse talked that one should fall asleep again in first dimension!

"Then leave your corpse and walk,
Do not look back at these bad creatures,
For they exist only when convince you that you exist" - this verses talk about the nature of traveling from the first to second dimension. Leaving the corpse was in esoteric sense leaving one's physical body, astral traveling. The corpse is in secret knowledge, as in alchemy, synonym for the physical body. The other part talks about various creatures that want to hold you off and "seduce you" by fear, the so called guardians of the gate. They are projections of suppressed content of ones physche. But, huge error is to consider them as illusions, they are very real and hostile, too! Every reaction connected with biography of the dreamer, his emotions in eventual panic makes those creature more real than an actual dreamer! They are personifications of the dreamer, so as fear grows, thus the reality of these creatures grows, too. This can go so far that they can enslave him even upon his awakening, in real life.
"The burden of Death you must resist" - this verve means you must fall asleep again within a dream and is the same as in second verve.
After few months of trying to fall asleep again within a dream at that same spot - the bench by the Geneva lake, I finally realized that I must be very tired in order to do that. So I slept very little and exhausted myself with hard physical work. But, one night - success! When sat at my bench and started to read the book, I fell asleep again: after that all has changed! I fell into some deep abyss very deep, seemed like forever. I felt fear at once, but I knew, must resist to it and keep going. Suddenly, from all sides, I got attacked by some very ugly creatures (like those from Bosch's paintings if you know those). They started to pinch and bite me (and I felt very real pain).
I kept repeating the verve: "walk, do not look back at these bad creatures, for they exist only when convince you that you exist." The fear was huge, but I knew, must go on forward, whatever happens.
This ugly abyss was the second dimension. In my later research, I systematized seven levels of the second dimension, seven sphere's.
Then, I crossed to the third dimension.
Words are unusable for this dimension. In my opinion, this is not the dream but the Earth before man has fallen (whatever that meant). There is no time in linear sense. Roughly speaking, it is always now and always where dreamer wants to be. In one of my journey, I met Master Ekhart. I knew it was him; here all is clear, nothing is hidden. Things are transparent and they are what they are. Master Ekhart warned me never to tell anyone what I see, never to write books or articles about this. But, how could I deprive humanity this miracle world, that one of their kind dreamt a dream of the czar Nebuchadnezzar, the dream of the czar Irod, many other remarkable dreams since the world was made. They constantly keep flowing in regions of the third dimension. I just knew I had to write the book.
In one of my journeys in the third dimension, I have found myself in some building with labyrinth of endless halls. At all time I had a strange feeling of being part of some text! In one of the halls I saw two men standing in front of the painting. One was very old and the other middle aged. They started conversation:
-"Quiet", said the older one, "the readers can hear you but not see you, but also, they can see you and not hear you! You wasted a lot of time, we have a work to do"
-"Why haven't you told me that we are in the third dimension of the dreaming?"
-"You were supposed to conclude that by yourself. If I told you, you would only think about it and we would not do anything, maybe even exposed ourselves into danger. Crossing from one to other dimension is unnoticeable. It comes from the fact that we give our attention to minor things, thus the most evident thing, the core of all escapes from our attention".
This was the first time I met other human dreamers in the third dimension. Evidently, here was the case of teacher - adept and the student.
Here the page was half burned and that was all left from Klosovsky's book. The story goes that Klosovsky withdrew back all of his copies and destroyed them. It is known that four copies still got sold. One of the buyers was Alfred Rosenberg, later a nazi ideologist. These few pages were found in his apartment after Berlin was bombarded. Who purchased other three copies remained unknown...

To me this text rings a lot of bells, so to speak. I find it fascinating, from Klosovsky's determination to explore options of dreaming, to amazing similarities to other dream groups I've been exploring like Russian group Dreamhackers and of course Castaneda's seven gates of dreaming. In my struggle to Dream as described in books of these authors, I have accomplished little. I have found my hands several times, met interesting dream characters, had amazing intersections among two realities, but the distance between those times was quite large, sometimes few years. So, among other things, I decided to try the Klosovsky's method, as well.
For start, I set my intent to dream myself as sitting in the ancient Roman arena, here in the city where I live, otherwise, my favorite spot, a place of Power. The idea was that the alarm from my my cellular phone shakes me up with SMS message, which says: "look at your hands, this is a dream."
For two months, every evening I visualized this scenario, the dream which is supposed to happen and Intend it. But no success. Then, one day, in real, I went to that arena to have a coffee and enjoy the spring sun. As I sat there, read some book, a SMS alarm sounded. I looked at it and it said: look at your hands, this is a dream" ; -) lol
This was total surprise, I just couldn't believe my eyes!
Later, I asked my friend why did he sent this message, he sad: I don't know, it just came to me all the sudden. Now, this is an omen as large as Empier state building, lol. I got no option but to continue with this practice :-) I had similar omens before, but not as in details as this one. Dreamhackers have exercise in where you transfer your desired task from one reality to another, in whatever form you prefer. It is based on the idea of realities as "bubbles" we perceive and live in. So, the idea is to transfer the intended task from one bubble to another; T1 to T2 (DH call this reality as T1 and dreaming reality as T2, tonal one and tonal two. This relates to Klosovsky's everyday attention and the first dimension of dreaming where we hold our inner dialogue and construction of the reality as we are accustomed to).
