Comparisons
#1
~
In this relative world we compare everything.  It seems like a good idea in the material sense, as we always want the best value, correct?
What I’m really getting at is when we’re looking to improve ourselves.  We look at two different individuals who may be willing to provide something to us and then compare them.  “Bill seems to have his **** together more than Wayne, so I’ll focus on him.”
A key point that we need to be aware of is, “Who’s doing the selecting?”  Our ego and self importance?  What criteria are we basing these decisions on?
I do realize we cover a lot of stuff on these boards.  Even within this sub-folder there’s a host of ‘stuff’ to look at.  “Wow, am I supposed to examine every detail of my life every minute of my day?!?!?!”  Well, I guess it’s up to you what you do and when you do it.
I perform Recap and Autolysis to dig into and clear away the beliefs, meditation and breathing exercises to not-do thinking and just reside in awareness, and my daily activities to live life and monitor my responses and re-actions.  It’s kind of one big circle.  Daily living provides fuel for recapping and recapping provides clarity for daily life, etc., etc.
But, back to comparisons.  I guess the point of this post is to realize who, how and when we’re doing this comparing.  As opposed to choosing one individual and focusing on them over another, can we learn from both?  Or learn from most everyone?  What’s to learn?  Learning about ourselves from others.  The key is in quickly seeing that we are choosing.  But again, who’s doing the choosing and why are we choosing one individual over another?  Keep in mind that wants and needs are seldom the same.  What one individual provides we may want, but it certainly is not what we need to push ourselves further.  Now of course we don't just compare individuals.  We compare everything!
Comparing was a tough nut to crack for me for many years.  This would be in regards to Nagualism (for lack of a better term) and Eastern Philosophy and Aikido.  I’d focus on one, then the other.  One offered this, one offered that.  After long discussions with my teacher I finally began to see the ‘light’ so to speak.
We talked about just going through the motions.  We talked about getting real.  What does that mean?  I dub this Awareness Training.  Raising my awareness, my perceptual abilities.  I learned to examine the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How.  We talked in regards to my Life.  My retail life, my massage business, my Aikido training, my relationships with others.  It’s ALL Awareness Training if we see it that way.
It’s tough at first.  One need be ever present.  If we keep at it though, it arises.  What arises?  Our perception and our attentive capacity.  There’s no difference in Dreaming or Aikido.  It’s Awareness Training.
Great, now I’M the jackwagon on the train to mamby pamby land.
Just some rambling thoughts on a beautiful morning…

Comparisons of the human to human kind mainly, are seen to be utterly useless when we consider, visualize, all of existence as one whole, and we are each but pieces in its puzzle--individual puzzle pieces. So of course we are each different...inside and out, why would we all be the same in such a case? You have done puzzles, when you open the box and the contents fall out, are all the puzzle pieces the same shape, size, color? What would be the use of that, for how would the parts fit together if each piece was exactly the same as next? They would not, could not. Life, if like such a puzzle as this, would be utterly useless.

I agree.
Don't you think that comparisons are somewhat of an "indulgence," as well?
A way of either ranking one's self above (self-importance) or below (indulging) another?

Well, I think what happens is its just so hard to make sense of being here, of being alive in this form and yet knowing, however dim or sharp the awareness of, our divinity within. So when we look around, and say we spot an extremely gorgeous person at our work, same sex as us, and this person gets all the attention of the opposite sex, never is in need of a date, we may feel cheated that such a person has such fortune, and its our sense of divinity within that makes us exclaim.."I deserve to be loved, appreciated that way." Yet come Friday we have no date and the other person is laughing out the door hand in hand with the date we wanted to be with.

Another example is a person has lots of money and thus they have so few worries, at least of the money kind. And then we may have so many worries..such as a relative needs an expensive operation and has no money to pay for it, and our kids want to go to college to better themselves but no money to send them, our car is broken down but no money to fix it and we need it to go to work or we'll lose our job. And so we see this rich person, and their 'problems' and we make comparisons of all the things we could do to help everyone if we only had their situation. Then we may resent them becasue they complain about their problems...which matter to them, but from our stance their problems are "shallow" so thus judgment arises and it feels very justified.

So its this split...the divine within that tells us all is equal, and then the without that is the opposite picture. So it can be very difficult to align, because the truths that need to be seen are not the things that are on the surface or most apparent obvious or even pending. The truths are hidden almost, so subtle and require much sacrifice for us to be able to view them. Why sacrifice? Well, we must, in order to reach these truth, cross that graveyard of discontent...and it so hard to do and so few people seek to do it. Warriors are the only breed of people I know with the guts. Why do they do it? To get to the nagual...haha, sounds like the "why did the chicken cross the road?" riddle..."why did the warrior cross the graveyard of disappointment and desperation? Why to get to the other side." Or is that... to break on thru to the other side?

A way of either ranking one's self above (self-importance) or below (indulging) another? And my short answer on that is people are seeking the divine...all-ness, the equality that we all know...because we sense that it is inherent...just nearly everyone is going about it the wrong way, via the rational mind which will get stuck in all the tonal 'realities' that on another level, higher spiritual level, are illusions.
I think it becomes an "indulgence" if we realize whats said in the above paragraph (rational mind) applies to us and yet keep doing it anyway. Prior to that many people don't even see what they are actually doing. So once its seen, then it can be changed.

And to the pure...all things are pure.
Which means that 'pure evil' is still pure.
Think on that a bit, scout1.
Please define "evil" as it has meaning to you, personally...so I know a little more about where you are coming from.
Since you are sending us to a site full of Buddhist philosophies, does that mean that is your own preferred outlook?
If so, then how is the idea of "demons" valid to you?
You said:

What is "Mara" to you?
Is Mara literally a demon who exists as an autonomous entity?Or is Mara simply the demon that fulfills your cravings of the moment, thus helping you to remain in the mind-set of suffering?Or something else? If, so then please elaborate Also, if you apply the principles of Buddhism to your life in a literal fashion, have you experienced Satori yet?
If so, then what did you realize...especially in regard to ideas such as sorcerers being reincarnated demons?
Thanks in advance!
And nice to make your acquaintance, too, btw.

http://www.what-buddha-taught.netI don't need to study the Buddha...again, but thanks for the links, anyway. I appreciate your efforts on my behalf.

However, I was asking YOU what your understandings are...they naturally wouldn't be found by me studying...only my own understandings come via that route.
But you know this already.
Why not just answer the questions? They aren't unreasonable, especially in light of the reply you posted...the one that you now want deleted.
If you would consider your words while they are still thoughts...before you give them life with your voice, whether vocally or with your keyboard, you wouldn't have to try to take them back. They aren't retrievable once uttered or written, anyway.
Hindsight is 20/20 but forethought is PRICELESS.
