CMU prisons are no joke. A place for political prisoners to be denied basic rights. Freedom of speech is sorta an illusion, maybe? Speak the wrong thing and apparently there are LOTS of places one can wind up. Domestic terrorism is scary to be charged with and being a political activist could land such a label. The government does pretty much whatever they want with you..
See. America's prison system is crazy! There's so much people don't know! I, for one, would never cross the government. Those peeps scare me.
I love TED talks. I learn really cool things from them.

Check out the Twilight reference. Lol, right?! I'm a huge Twilight fan. Team Edward all the way!
Wow though. Imagine like the secret prisons that don't get talked about. Jeepers, really wild stuff out there. I'm glad I'm super ignorant of all that stuff. Otherwise, it would give me nightmares. I like my life... having my life taken and being isolated would suck. I don't even think they have WiFi. I would die without WiFi!
Whew. I'm so grateful for all this surplus of freedom I have. I would hate to see it go buhbyes. Glad I never pssed off anyone in that domain

I think the above video proves that the most significant bully, the top dog, the big kahuna, is most certainly the government. They have the biggest d...development.
So now I wonder. Who is either stupid or clever enough to take the kind of risk to oppose such a wondrous beast. It's a game! We can make this fun, can't we?
The rules are: topple the system before it topples you. Winner takes all.
Go ahead. Use your glorious freedom of speech you were given. Embrace what it means to be an American. Stick it to the man!
Go on now. Tell as many people as much as you can, as fast as you can. It's a race! Let them know the far reaching depths of conspiracy and slavery that truly exists!
No?
Don't want to risk your life?
Too scary for you?
You can do it! Tell me a story of adventure, political corruption, and convince me to see your way of thinking. I'm ready to be convinced. Show me the way
We can make this the fight for our lives CC has often talked about . I mean, what's the worst that could happen?

Until someone steps forward to lead me to freedom, I'll be watching Netflix. Like a true American!

We don't have a Debate Arena yet but we can certainly have a debate here anyway!
Prompt: Does the government have your best interest at heart?
Pixie: Yes!
Challenger: No.
Bring me my opponent! I promise to go easy on you. Let's make our cases!
For the record, I've never done the debate thing so I don't know the rules of engagement. I also probably won't care enough to learn them. But we can play footsies and make up random stuff we push off as facts also, I'm totally open to just stating my beliefs and arguing like we're 5 year olds. I'm totally flexible and just go with the flow.
"The gov wants us to succeed and has programs in place to accommodate the poor, the abused, and the homeless. In addition to programs, there are people who manage these areas who provide reliable service to the underpriveledged, leave no child left behind, and provide prompt medical service to veterans. The secret federal prisons encourage reflection and introspection. Inmates are provided three meals a day, shelter, and an environment conducive to developing a greater self awareness."
Your turn. Annnd go!

JJ, I know someone like you is so very skilled in the debate arena. You often bring a lot of knowledge and awareness to verbal engagements. I choose you as my opponent to bless me with your expert opinions. Care to enter The Arena? I cannot promise I'm a worthy opponent, but I will entertain you to no end!
Disclaimer: the contents of The Arena experience may yield unforeseeable consequences, result in really good or bad life lessons, and may, on some occasions, make you crave nachos.

Side note: nothing like this could ever happen in places like Korea. They would just lock you up and throw away the key. The luxury of living in a free country. Freedom is so nice. I'm so grateful for those who protect us...sometimes from ourselves.
You would be surprised by how many people take advantage of that freedom. It's super sad to see people do things without really thinking them through. They step into dangerous zones, sometimes blindly! It's nice when people toss up caution signage to say: DANGER DANGER RETHINK YOUR NEXT STEP.
I mean, it would suck to accidently land oneself into a CMU due to ignorance. That should be an informed decision. People know things like murder are often illegal. But not many realize freedom of speech doesn't cover all areas of speech. Like, I can say Trump looks like an orange and sucks at running anything. Certain judgements are fine. Name calling is protected speech (thanks government!). Now, sharing classified info is a big no no (unless you're exempt). But what about the shades of gray? Can I talk about things that could potentially destabilize the nation? Prolly not protected speech. Can I talk about the Spy Who Dumped Me? Well. It's a fabulous new movie from the comedy genre, so yah, protected speech.
Freedom of speech really means protected speech. It applies to some things, not all things. Don't shoot oneself in the foot
Ignorant peep, "Thanks Pixie for all that great info! I almost landed myself in a very bad place. You're a life saver!"
Pixie, "You're welco. I may be annoying, but I got your back, dumbass."

Jeez, there I go again. Talking about movies. I have no flippin' life! Anyway, big movie fan here. The art of storytelling is so sacred. I love it!

Anyone else notice the Britney song in that trailer? The pop genre is the yummiest. It looks so simple and sugary. What intelligent peep would dig pop? This girl does. So much that I found the song for youz.

Prompt: Does the government have your best interest at heart?
The gov has no clue what out best interest is, hence they cannot 'have' it anywhere . But most people have no clue either, hence it might be easy to just buy into the idea that the government does

The proper way to start a debate like this, (according to my own personal outlined thinking method which is superior to yours because you don't have one. ), is to define the terms in the question. The question again is "Does the government have our best interests at heart?" The four terms therein are "The government", "our", "best interests" and "at heart".
The government - An hierarchical organization with multiple branches that purports the right to create, interpret, and enforce rules, (variously called laws, statutes, ordinances, etc.), which govern those who reside on the portion of the earth over which it claims governance. This purported right is enforced by military might.
In order to keep the debate a bit simpler, I suggest limiting our question to does one, (or perhaps a few), particular government/s have our best interests at heart; rather than do ALL governments have our best interests at heart.
Our - The people that the government claims the right to govern.
Best interests - This is probably the trickiest part of the question. "Best" is a matter of opinion, so to resolve the original debate we must first answer the question "Whose opinion decides what's in our best interest?". As a synonym for best interests I suggest "works the upmost in our favor".
At heart - I believe in this question at heart should be interpreted as meaning more than just "is the government doing things that are in our best interests"... but also "is the government doing those things BECAUSE they're in our best interests"

This depends on our definition of "at heart". If you agree with what I wrote above that the government must not only be doing what's in our best interests but also doing it BECAUSE of that reason, then it's impossible for a government that doesn't know what's in our best interests to have them at heart. This is a little different than just asking if a government that doesn't know what our best interests are might be acting towards them, which is possible. Much like it's possible to not know which direction is East even while traveling in that direction.
But before we get to that point, you would need to provide evidence for your assertion that the government doesn't know what's in our best interests.
This is why I like starting with defining our terms. It makes everything that comes afterward so much easier than trying to define terms as you go along.

I miss the like buttons. I'm going to manually like this post.

I agree, you're totally right. Your way is far superior to mine for the reason you mention. I concede!
My prompt was overly complex. I like the way you simplified it. I only want to discuss American gov because I'm entirely ignorant of other countries.
Yeah about the rest. Those are good things to define and I can groove with your definitions.

UNLIKE
My laughter smells like raspberries and cupcakes. It could never be obnoxious.
Also, WG was genuinely hilarious! She said we're all fcking lost souls and no one is captaining this ship! I couldn't agree more! We're (humanity) a hot mess!!!!! (And that's both endearing and funny.)
