Julio's poems

The Most Noble Pursuit
The words start to mesh together, losing any distinguishing features."Let me tell you what he said...""Did she really do that...""Do you like the movie...""I love her new hat..."
There's more.
"What he should have said...""What she should have done...""What I would have said...""If I were the one..."
Groan.
"Well if it were me, I'd...""Who do you think will win..."If I was the coach..."
It's all the same.
"... if he said ... ... when I was there I'd ...... they should have ...... ... ... I'd ... ...You should......he ought to..."Over and over again,this eternal refinement,of themselves and each other.
Why?
Do the habits with which we interpret, and react to all things, whether trivial,or even real, merit such obsession?
"It is the most noble pursuit."
The cheerful man is speaking to me.Before I complain he assaults me again,
"These collections of habits you've noted, are called personalities, and the fools always name them 'Me'."
Once more he interrupts before I can start,
"Their compulsive tinkering with them isn't to be derided, but applauded as an overpowering drive for self-improvement,they've just misidentified the self."
And for the first time in an age,There is hope.

Today I Guess I'll Lose My Mind

Today I guess I'll lose my mind,
free myself and loose it's binds.
You might think this strange to do,
but I contend you'll do it too.

Notice how those thoughts to which we cling,
(and fools confuse for their own being),
disappear quickly like morning's dew;
only to be replaced with thoughts anew.

At best they may leave only shadows,
beliefs grazing in mental meadows.
The reasons behind them must be created again;
can you recreate the rational you had at ten?

Yet even when the arguments are sound,
(and there ain't much of that goin' round),
tiny spectrums of experience beget the analogy,
of attempts to infer forests from seeing but one tree.

Terminal shadows deduced from the imaginings of the blind,
these compose the entirety of our precious mind.
So, of it all I may as well forget,
just... maybe... not yet.

"The reasons behind them must be created again; can you recreate the rational you had at ten?"-JJDude that line had a nice feel to it. props. I recalled a bit my childhood and it made me think.
I like the second poem a lot better than the first. I feel like your said[wrote] the second with gusto or power? Kinda like a stern "AH" but not too forceful. Real smooth. Im not sure if I am making a lot of sense. Good stuff.

You're right Xlyer, I was in a much different state when I wrote those two. The first was kind of a stream of consciousness thing I made a few weeks ago. The other one I actually wrote a little over a year ago. I came across them while browing on my computer and wondered if I should do anything with them so I thought why not post them here. I'm glad you enjoyed them, (well at least the second one).

i liked them both

especially this verse

Today I guess I'll lose my mind,
free myself and loose it's binds.
You might think this strange to do,
but I contend you'll do it too.

and this verse...

"What he should have said..."
"What she should have done..."
"What I would have said..."
"If I were the one..."

but i like them the other way round....and together...

"What he should have said..."
"What she should have done..."
"What I would have said..."
"If I were the one..."
Today I guess I'll lose my mind,
