I feel that ruthlessness is a warrior trademark
There is a difference between real love and compassion. Compassion is to be entangled in the emotions of others. Love for a warrior is not like that - it is more like 'tough love'.
Most of the time people who are very compassionate, giving, seemingly loving are really just more interested in what people think of them. They don't want anyone to be upset at them and they want to be viewed as sweet and caring. On the other side people who are crumudgins are the ones who will have your back if absolutely necessary, but also willing to let go of your bullshit if all this lovey dovey **** isn't helping!
Ruthlessness is the option of dispensing with compassion or anything else that is an obstacle. To be sure - ruthlessness does not mean less joyful necessarily.
What Serloco doesn't get here is that going through hell and coming out of it alive makes him a better warrior...why should anyone's 'compassion' take that away?
