Dreamer Tea
#1
Dream inducing herbs have been used for centuries to induce lucid dreaming by shamans and sorcerers. One popular herb is African Dream Root,  another, Calea is used by Mazatec shamans to induce vivid dreams and  the Pawnee Indians used African Dream Herb. Valerian has
been used as a sleep aid and dream inducer since time began and sweet Gale is also said to induce Lucid dreaming.
I've used a few of these, off and on, currently taking a tea made from sweet Gale occasionally before bed, and while I haven't noticed any more lucid dreaming, I have noticed more dreaming, better sleeping.  And I've also used chrysanthemum tea and chrysanthemum petals under my pillow to induce better dreaming.    The one herb I have heard a lot about that I really want to try for Dreaming is Calea.   has anyone tried this?  Does anybody have any advice or suggestions or personal testimony on any of the dreaming herbs?

Other herbs suggested to enhance dreaming:
Kava kava
Plantain
Watercress
Blue Vervain
Calamus Root
Yohimbine
Mugwort
Turmeric

Great thread En, beautiful too. I want to suggest on kava kava...be careful, it can cause organ damage...specially liver. It does give you a good feeling and might be slightly addicting.

I want to try some of these teasSmile I'm one of those people who has never taken anything for dreaming...'what am I waiting for?', I am now asking.

For me, these herbs are hard to find.   I know they are easily available online, but online shopping is near impossible w/o a credit card.  So I keep my eyes open at the local health food stores and occasionally find something that looks interesting.

Hi E,

I've tried Calea Zacatechichi a number of times, as a tea, and smoked, with no result, as yet. I've also tried Coleus as a dream aid, with a similar lack of results. Coleus does give a mild ecstacy-like buzz, whilst awake. Makes a very tasty tea, too.

I am much interested in dream potentiators, and psychoactive plants, in general, and shall look into the ones you mention.

Of all the psychoactives I have tried, Salvia is the undoubted champion. It kicks everything else's ass, big-time! I have never had the courage,(or recklessness,), to combine it with harmine/harmaline, though I'd imagine, it would give incomparable results.

The most effective dream potentiator I have ever encountered, is nicotine replacement patches. I kid you not!

Try it, and see.

P.S. You can still buy online by means of cheques, or, by getting a friend with a credit/debit card, to buy for you.

i know this isn't an herb, but i've had success with binaural beats when i need a jumpstart.

im a purist really.... so even though i know it works, i dont do it unless im starting to feel really off-balance from lack of dreaming.

my method has been to download the beats from the internet to my ipod. then, i use the wake-back-to-bed method, which is very successful for me without any "helpers" in the first place. i get up around four am, stay awake for fifteen minutes, and then when i go back to bed, i use the beats on my headphones. after about half an hour or so, i shut it off and go to sleep. works very well, but like i said.... the WBTB method works so well for me anyway that i hardly ever use them unless its been a long time and i feel "off". the thing i don't like about them is they work by bringing your bran into an alpha state and then down into theta - and it goes back and forth like that. it has a tendency to make me feel kind of nauseous and very ungrounded in my dreaming, not to mention that the entrainment works so well that it becomes a momentum that pulls me out of the dream on its own. i can stay in the dream much longer without them, so i prefer not to use them.

the things that i feel have worked best for me are: adopting a habit of daily meditation, getting plenty of sleep, having a strong intent for what i want to specifically do in my dream, and talking out loud to the inorganic beings.

Hi enchantra,

I tried calea on more than one occasion and it worked only when I drank a full cup of tea and then smoked two calea cigarettes, which is said to be they way the Chontal Natives of Oaxaca Use it. When I tired just smoking it because the tea tastes horrible, no luck. You can order it from bouncing bear botanicals, they accept checks, cash, money orders and wire transfers as well as credit cards:

I had a few tries with Calea. I really didn't get on with it. In fact i would suggest caution with this plant. However I have not found similar reactions to my results recorded anywhere else.

My own experience was that it massively increased anxiety to the point of complete emotional imbalance. I actually struggled to have a normal angst free conversation with people for several days after trying this herb.

I gave some to a GF who subsequently suffered extreme migraine actually causing her to vomit. The pain was so bad i actually considered taking her to hospital. When i focussed on her i could see huge energy build up and i somehow had the idea i should dissipate this via massage. After a short somewhat energetic massage the pain subsided but left her entire body nearly scarlet in colour and hot to the touch. Huge huge heat build up caused by taking this. If you are sensitive to energy and have rudiments of any form of energy cultivation i advise caution. At least let someone know what you are doing before experimenting.
